We have been playing guitar and bass for several years and would like to get into upgrading and repair and possibly even finishing guitars. We ware wondering if there is a resource you might recommend for someone to be able to learn on their own. or at least somewhere to get basic knowledge. Thanks Adam
There are some good books out there. Dan Erlewines Guitar player repair guide is a good one for setup and light repair. There is also Complete Guitar Repair by Hideo Kamimoto it's an older book but still very relevant in a lot of areas. I started out originally monkeying with my own guitars and by yard sale specials and got setup work and fretwork figured out to the point where I could do it for other people.

Hence I decided to learn to build them from a stack of lumber into beautiful handmade guitars. No production style stuff in my shop If you're patient and not afraid to go places you've never gone before you can teach yourself the basic guitar tech stuff pretty easy it just takes time and mistakes, that's why I recommend yard sale specials. If you wreck them toss them, however this seldom happens usually it is a mistake that can be fixed and you learn to repair from mistakes you make. Hope this helps.
We have by far the best guitar repair technicians around. Highly trained in their craft, they are committed to making your
guitar play the absolute best it possibly can. Don't trust your instrument to just anyone. It takes a repair technician who
really knows what they are doing to make your instrument play optimally. Our repair technicians are highly trained artisans.
We look at all aspects of an instrument and assess its operational qualities to ensure, upon its completion, that the
instrument is in the absolute best condition possible. Our artisans pay attention to details such as fret leveling, truss
rod adjustment for perfect action suited to your play style, string height issues, tuning, cut of the bridge saddle and nut,
and glue seams.
Many shops tend to overlook certain parts of the repair process. They consider some operations that we perform on a routine
basis redundant. NO PART of the repair of your instrument should simply be overlooked. We thoroughly examine the guitar
and assess completely anything that might need to be done to put it into top-notch condition. We call with a complete
estimate BEFORE we do any work so that you are not confused about what we are doing! When we are done with the repair
your instrument is carefully prepared so that nothing changes during shipment. The instrument is then packed securely
and returned to you in a timely manner.
